Changing Your Bank for Direct Deposit
SCERS issues all monthly retirement payments by direct deposit. If you switch banks or want to use a different account, you’ll need to update your direct deposit instructions to avoid any disruption in your benefit payments.
What You’ll Need
To change your banking information, complete and submit the:
- Authorization for Direct Deposit (Form 6186)
This form is available on the SCERS website under Forms & Publications. You’ll need to provide:
- Your name and contact information
- Your SCERS identification or Social Security number (last four digits)
- The name of your new financial institution
- Your new routing and account numbers
How to Submit the Form
Submit your completed and signed form:
- By mail
- In person at the SCERS office
- Through secure file upload, if coordinated with SCERS staff
For security reasons, SCERS cannot accept banking updates over the phone or by standard email.
Important Timing Information
Once received, your new banking information usually takes effect within one to two payment cycles.
Do not close your old bank account until you confirm that your benefit payment has successfully posted to your new account. SCERS is not responsible for delays caused by closed or inaccessible accounts.
