Actuarial Reports
Pensions are long-term promises, and SCERS relies on actuarial science to ensure those promises can be kept. Actuarial reports measure the health of the system by looking at current assets, projecting future obligations, and determining the contributions needed from members and employers.
Each year, SCERS’ actuary prepares a set of formal reports that are reviewed and adopted by the Board of Retirement. These reports go beyond day-to-day performance to answer critical questions: Is the system adequately funded? Are contribution rates set at the right level? How are demographic and economic changes—such as life expectancy, inflation, or salary growth—affecting the plan?
By reviewing actuarial reports, members, employers, and the public can see how SCERS is managing risk and planning for the future.
