Retirement Benefit Calculator

Your SCERS benefit is based on a formula, not an account balance. The Benefit Calculator allows you to explore how age, service credit, and compensation affect your monthly allowance.

The calculator allows you to explore “what if” scenarios, such as:

  • What happens if you retire a year earlier or later?
  • What benefits are available for your eligible survivor?
  • How does working part-time affect your benefit?
  • What impact would purchasing additional service credit have?

If you are registered for MySCERS, you’ll have access to a personalized calculator that uses your actual SCERS record. Because it draws directly from your data, this version provides the most accurate projection of your monthly retirement allowance. You can run multiple scenarios by adjusting your expected retirement date and other variables.

For members who haven’t yet registered, a guest calculator is also available on scers.gov. This version requires you to enter information manually—such as your expected service credit and final compensation—and produces a general estimate. While not as precise as the personalized tool, it’s a good way to start exploring how the retirement formula works.

Both versions of the calculator reflect differences between Legacy and PEPRA tiers. That means the results you see already account for the rules that apply to your membership.
